ACC main campuses have Learning Labs which offer free first-come, first-serve tutoring in mathematics courses. Other texts that I've used have skipped steps and left you wondering how did they get from A to Z? I bought my book and voila! In addition, each text in the series contains an abundance of exercises - including numerous calculator-based and reasoning and writing exercises - and a wide variety of real-world applications illustrating how math is useful. Raymond Barnett has authored or co-authored eighteen textbooks in mathematics, most of which are still in use. Calculus is a service course, and the material in it was chosen after interdepartmental discussions.

This tip will save you a lot of grief. By Brittany on Jan 21, This book was about cheaper than offered on my university's website, it is expensive but needed for a course. Great Math Textbook By H. If you are caught cheating, you will be penalized as harshly as possible under the rules of UT.

Amazon is offering another version that is just the textbook. Actions constituting scholastic dishonesty include, but are not limited to, plagiarism, cheating, fabrication, collusion, and falsifying documents. One of my students has been using this book for her high school Precalc course, and the more familiar I became with it, the more I loved it which is why it's on my wish list right now for helping students in the future. If you can really do something in your head, that's great, but when in doubt, write it down. Nobody will leapfrog anybody else; if you have more points than your buddy, then your grade will be at least as good as your buddy's. Behavior that disrupts the learning process will be dealt with appropriately, which may include having the student leave class for the rest of that day.

MATH 1011/1012 ALGEBRA AND TRIG ULM ED

She would provide a few examples and leave you wondering how you got to that answer. My cutoffs are usually more generous than that, but each semester is unique. I would recommend it highly without reservation. There are three questions associated with every mathematical idea in existence: 1.

I contacted Amazon customer service and explained that my class started a week before so I couldn't really return the book. The Trig chapters likewise go into a lot of depth, first introducing the unit circle, radians, equivalent angles, the basic functions, the angles students should know by heart multiples of 30, 45, 60, and 90 deg.

The only thing that seems to change is the pictures, and even some of those have been reused for the 4th edition. New to these editions, Technology Connections illustrate how concepts that were previously explained in an algebraic context may also be solved using a graphing calculator.

College Algebra & Trig book covered in every SLO. In appropriate places in the text, there are clearly identified examples and exercises related to graphing calculators and computers, illustrations of applications of spreadsheets, and sample computer output.

By Aquaria on Jun 25, I had my choice of taking a pre-calc track college algebra course using this book, or another using a book by a guy named Sullivan.

You are expected to learn and comply with ACC environmental, health and safety procedures and agree to follow ACC safety policies. The second trig chapter has several sections covering a few identities at a time, which build up to solving trig equations sometimes using those identities.

By Esperanza on Nov 06, When I get stuck I always go in the section that we are learning and find a similar problem to see the correct way to work it out. Opportunity for students to examine and question pertinent data and assumptions of a given discipline, guided by the evidence of scholarly research, is appropriate in a learning environment.

By Brittany on Jan 21, This book was about cheaper than offered on my university's website, it is expensive but needed for a course. Other texts that I've used have skipped steps and left you wondering how did they get from A to Z? I have never had a textbook for teaches you and explains things as well as this one does.

This is not a course in the theory of calculus; the majority of the proofs in the text should not be covered in class. I just wish that there were many more examples.

Barnett, and more recently, Karl E. He is not afraid to show helpful acronyms or pneumonic devices ASTC - all students take calculus - to help remember which trig functinos were positive in which quadrantsand he often gives hints in the margin that clear things up or elucidate certain mathematical concepts.
